With the purchase of Whole Foods and the creation of Amazon Fresh, Amazon has been in the grocery business now for several years. Even before that, they sold shelf stable food as part of their regular offerings. In the last few months, they seem to be moving away from Amazon Fresh into same-day delivery of fresh and frozen grocery items through their regular primer service. The selection is more limited, and delivery is not consistently available, but the minimum purchase is the same $25 than it is for all other same-day delivery items. Prices on Amazon products are usually lower than those at Safeway.

Amazon has also been selling its own self-labeled products under its “Amazon Fresh” brand, which is shifting into “Amazon Grocery” and the Aplenty brand. It seems to be trying to compete with Trader Joe’s. These are the Amazon branded products I’ve tried, and what I’ve thought of them.
