Caramelized Potatoes

I was skeptical about this recipe but I decided to try it after reading that the sugar enhanced the flavor of the potatoes, rather than just sweetening them. Perhaps I did it wrong, but I ended up with sweet potatoes. They weren't bad, but not something I'd try again.

Caramelized Potatoes


  • 1 1/2 lbs. small potatoes
  • salt to taste
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 cup white sugar


Wash the potatoes and boil them in salted water until soft. Cool slightly and peel. Rest until cool.

Put sugar in a frying pan and top with butter. Turn on heat and up slowly until the sugar is melted and starts to brown. Add the potatoes. Cook, turning in the sugar, until all of it sticks to the potatoes, 5 to 10 minutes.
