Punch Planteur

Planter's Punch

Planter's punch(es) , mixtures of fruit drinks with rum, exist in most Caribbean islands. Guadaloupe's version is characterize by its use of guava juice and dark rum. I chose a fairly simple recipe for my punch and then simplified it even more by buying a juice mix, which actually happened to include all the fruit juices called for in the recipe (of course, I have no way of knowing in which proportions). While the juice mixture did not have added sugar, I felt it was sweet enough so I didn't use simple syrup.

I thought the punch was pretty good, but nothing extraordinary. I found it still too sweet for my taste, so perhaps the addition of half a teaspoon of angostura bitters, as I saw in other recipes, would have been helpful.
