Spinners or Sinkers

Cornmeal dumplings

Spinners or sinkers are easy to make dumplings eaten with stews in parts of the Caribbean. Unfortunately, mine ended up being sinkers rather than spinners. I probably did not use enough water or my techinque might have failed. (Lo) que serĂ¡, serĂ¡.

Spinners & Sinkers

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup cornmeanl
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • warm water

Directions

Mix flour, cornmeal and salt together. Add water, a little at the time, until you have a soft ball. Shape into a ball and let sit for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, bring a pot of walted water into a simmer.

Take a bit of dough and roll in your hands into long dumplings, tapered on the ends. Drop on the water and simmer until cooked through, 15 to 30 minutes. Alternatively, cook them directly in the stew.
