Stay: June 2008

Last month (May/June 2008) I went to Berlin for a meeting and stayed at the Suitehotel. It was all in all a very pleasant experience.

The rooms are quite large and very well-designed. They feature a queen-size bed, an additional daybed, a desk with chairs, a flat-screen TV, a fridge and wet bar and quite a lot of storage space. The bathroom is separated in two - with a small room with a toilet and sink by the door, and a larger room with a full bathtub, a separate shower and a large sink area closer to the bed. It was a very comfortable room and was kept quite clean.

The hotel itself is pretty nice. They have two computers with free internet access, a bar and sitting and eating areas. It's nicely decorated with bright colors and modern lines. The people behind the counter were very helpful and efficient.

There is complimentary coffee and cake in the morning. Breakfast is also "served," but at the outrageous cost of E.12. The breakfast also leaves much to be desired. They do have a good coffee machine that serves cappuccinos and other coffee and chocolate concoctions, and there are fresh fruits. But the two cereals they offer are less than tasty, as is the bread. The rest of the breakfast consists of cold, weird offerings in small plastic cups (not very environmentally friendly). These included crepes with fruit (tiny and cold, they weren't very appetizing) and a fruit cobbler which also failed to impress. Everything I tried was pretty nasty. In all, you're better off with the free coffee and cake.

In addition to the breakfast, the combination soap-shower gel-shampoo is another sore spot. Bring your own shampoo and conditioner if you want to have any hope of combing your hair.

Other than that I enjoyed my stay, appreciated the low rate (about E.100 a night), and would stay here again if I came back to Berlin.
