{"id":997,"date":"2011-05-30T14:13:34","date_gmt":"2011-05-30T06:13:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/?p=997"},"modified":"2011-05-30T14:13:42","modified_gmt":"2011-05-30T06:13:42","slug":"braised-short-ribs-with-red-wine-and-pureed-vegetables","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/2011\/05\/braised-short-ribs-with-red-wine-and-pureed-vegetables\/","title":{"rendered":"Braised Short Ribs with Red Wine and Pureed Vegetables"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epicurious.com\/recipes\/food\/views\/Braised-Short-Ribs-with-Red-Wine-and-Pureed-Vegetables-235843\">epicurious.com recipe<\/a> is quite good and simple to make.\u00a0 Most importantly, I had all the ingredients to prepare them at home, the only thing I had to buy were the short ribs (on sale at Lucky&#8217;s for $3 lb).\u00a0 I&#8217;d made the recipe before and liked it quite a bit then.\u00a0 It was very good this time too, though I would have liked to cook the short ribs for another hour (alas, I didn&#8217;t have the time).\u00a0 No matter, the kids didn&#8217;t eat any so I have enough leftovers for another dinner &#8211; I&#8217;ll just add some wine &amp; chicken broth to the sauce and give them that extra cooking hour before we eat them next time.\u00a0 To give yourself plenty of time to make this, start it 4 hours before you want to serve it.<\/p>\n<p>I followed this recipe quite closely, though I used considerably less liquid as my pot was full.\u00a0 I still ended up with way too much sauce.<\/p>\n<p>I served this with mashed potatoes and it was very, very yummy.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-998\" href=\"https:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/2011\/05\/braised-short-ribs-with-red-wine-and-pureed-vegetables\/braisedshortribs\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-998\" title=\"Braised Short Ribs with Red Wine sauce and Mashed Potatoes\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/braisedshortribs.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"278\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/braisedshortribs.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/braisedshortribs-300x166.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Braised Short Ribs with Red Wine and Pureed Vegetables<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>5 black peppercorns<\/li>\n<li>1 bay leaf<\/li>\n<li>2 Tbsp. coarse salt<\/li>\n<li>2 Tbsp. fresh rosemary leaves<\/li>\n<li>2 Tbsp. fresh sage leaves<\/li>\n<li>4 &#8211; 5 lbs beef short ribs<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup cooking oil<\/li>\n<li>1 cup chicken broth<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 cup olive oil<\/li>\n<li>1 large onion, chopped<\/li>\n<li>1 1\/2 cups chopped carrots<\/li>\n<li>1 1\/2 cups chopped celery<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 cup tomato paste<\/li>\n<li>1 bottle red wine<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Instructions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Put the peppercorns, bay leaf, salt, rosemary and sage in a food grinder, and grind until well combined.\u00a0 Rub the mixture all over the short ribs, set aside.<\/p>\n<p>Heat the oil in a wide, large pot over medium-high heat.\u00a0 Working in batches, brown the short ribs on both sides.
