It&#8217;s a lot of work and I do always wonder if it&#8217;s really worth the effort &#8211; though Mike, at least, seems to appreciate it. That said, my recollection of most Christmas dinners usually fades quickly, though some dishes (the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marga.org\/food\/party\/xmas04\/roast.html\">roast<\/a> from 2004, the amazing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epicurious.com\/recipes\/food\/views\/Roast-Rack-of-Lamb-with-Madeira-Peppercorn-Reduction-103004\">rack of lamb<\/a> from 2008) are well worth remembering. This year&#8217;s meal was OK. Everything was good, nothing was spectacular. Or maybe I&#8217;m just bored with cooking and eating, who knows? In any case, here are the recipes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/2009\/10\/mac-and-cheese-recipe\/\">Mac &amp; Cheese<\/a> &#8211; made this for the kids, but they were too excited to eat anything at all that night. The only one who had some was Mika and she loved it.<\/p>\n<p><em>Hors d&#8217;ouvres<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Mixed Nuts<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/2010\/12\/blue-cheese-and-caramelized-onion-squares\/\">Blue Cheese &amp; Caramelized Onions Squares<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/2010\/12\/persimmon-bread-recipe\/\">Persimmon Bread<\/a> with butter<\/p>\n<p><em>Meal<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marga.org\/food\/party\/xmas04\/soup.html\">Mushroom Soup<\/a> &#8211; an old favorite<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/2011\/01\/piperade-recipe\/\">Piperade<\/a> on sun-dried tomato bread toast<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/2010\/12\/perfect-beef-wellington-recipe\/\">Beef Wellington<\/a> served with<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/2011\/01\/collard-greens-with-red-onions-and-bacon-recipe\/\">Collard Greens with Bacon<\/a> and<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/2010\/12\/butternut-squash-gnocchi-with-sage-brown-butter\/\">Buttertnut squash gnocchi with sage butter<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For dessert my friend Lola brought a cake which I served with homemade <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/2011\/01\/maple-nut-ice-cream-recipe\/\">Maple Walnut Ice Cream<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d say that my favorite dish were the blue cheese squares, though everything was quite good.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marga.org\/food\/party\/\">Marga&#8217;s Party &amp; Holiday Menus<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.marga.org\/food\/\">Marga&#8217;s Best Recipes<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Christmas Eve dinner is invariably the most elaborate and stressful meal I cook all year.
