Brunch at <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.balosrestaurants.com\/\">Balos Estiatorio<\/a><\/strong> was next on the schedule.  I&#8217;d chosen that restaurant because I saw it recommended in some list and my daughter noticed that it offered baklava French toast.  As a lover of both baklava and French toast she was intrigued &#8211; and while I don&#8217;t like baklava myself, I was curious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-38.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5171\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-38.png 800w, https:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-38-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-38-768x513.png 768w, https:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-38-676x451.png 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Balos was very busy when we got there (good thing I&#8217;d made a reservation!), filled with beautiful, mostly young people relaxing and taking advantage of the bottomless brunch cocktails. Service was as personable and polite as we quickly came to expect in DC &#8211; despite living at the center of the neo-apocalypse, Washingtonians seem to have (or fake) much better attitudes than Californians. It was quite good, particularly in a chilly day, though I think I prefer gruyere in this soup. I&#8217;m not usually much of a fish eater, but I wanted something light and this fit the bill.  There was nothing amazing about this dish, but it was well cooked, well seasoned and tasty &#8211; my only complain was that it had too many bones. He had ordered them over medium, expecting the yolk to be partially runny so he could dip the fries in it, but they were solid. It&#8217;s a minor complain and he overall liked the dish.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"672\" height=\"396\" src=\"https:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/477490381_9723277111039324_5973363772250130872_n-e1739397392515.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5154\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/477490381_9723277111039324_5973363772250130872_n-e1739397392515.jpg 672w, https:\/\/www.marga.org\/foodblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/477490381_9723277111039324_5973363772250130872_n-e1739397392515-300x177.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 672px) 100vw, 672px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The biggest disappointment, however, was my daughter&#8217;s <strong>&#8220;baklava&#8221; French toast<\/strong>, served with &#8220;mixed berries, pistachio, almond, walnut, Greek yogurt.&#8221; It had nothing altogether reminiscent of baklava.  It was just run of the mill French toast.  The two slices of bread were thick, and came with real maple syrup and some berries. There were a couple of nuts, but nothing that would make you think of baklava. I had the <strong>mascarpone cheesecake<\/strong>, which came with Vyssino cherries.  I wasn&#8217;t really hungry by this point, which was a good thing as I didn&#8217;t really enjoy the cheesecake.  It wasn&#8217;t what I&#8217;d call bad, but it just wasn&#8217;t worth the calories and the carbs.  It wasn&#8217;t as creamy as a regular cheesecake. The sour frozen yoghurt was great, and provided a nice contrast to the sweetness of the syrup.  My daughter, however, realized she doesn&#8217;t really like &#8220;wet&#8221; baklava, that so soaked in syrup that becomes soggy.
