A Costa Rican Culinary Adventure

I know that I will get in trouble for saying this, but in my experience Central American cuisine is rather forgettable, utilitarian rather than interesting. I spent 3 weeks in Costa Rica a decade ago, and I don't think I can recall one dish I had during my whole trip (I can, however, happily remember the amazing food I had in Turkey a decade earlier). So I was not necessarily excited about cooking Costa Rican food - and I don't regret moving on now that I'm done. Still, the dishes I did make, while simple and uninteresting, were all quite good, homey rather than exciting, and speak quite well for Tico cooks.
