I couldn't make a Belgian dinner and leave out Brussels sprouts. This recipe is fairly easy and yet very tasty. Even my husband who doesn't usually like Brussels sprouts ended up eating quite a few.
Brussels Sprouts, Flemish Style
- 1 1/2 lbs. small Brussels sprouts
- 6 tbsp. unsalted butter
- A pinch of nutmeg
- Salt and pepper to taste.
Trim the base of the Brussels sprouts, remove the outer leaves and rinse.
Put the Brussels sprouts in a large pot of salted water. Bring to a boil and boil uncovered until tender, 12 to 15 minutes. Drain and rise with cold water.
In a heavy skillet, melt the butter over high heat until it turns brown. Add the sprouts and brown on all sides. Remove, sprinkle with nutmeg, salt and pepper and serve.
