Sweet Vermicelli

I'm not a great fan of Indian desserts (though I liked them more than Middle Eastern sweets) so when I came across this most western-looking Bangladeshi dessert I decided I would try it. It was good, though not good enough to justify all the fat and calories from the butter and cream. I did eat all of it, however, and felt very guilty about it.

Sweet Vermicelli

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp. butter
  • 1 handful very fine vermicelli
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1 1/2 tbp. sugar
  • 1/2 cup whipping cream

    Instructions

Break vermicelli into 3" pieces. Melt butter in a small pot, add vermicelli and cook over low heat until it turns light brown, stirring frequently. Add milk, turn up the heat to medium and stir until it boils. Add raisins and sugar.

Cook on low heat for 10 minutes. Add whipping cream and cook for 2 more minutes. Remove from heat, leat cool and then refrigerate before serving.
